Abstract

In order to estimate adequate seasonal change of nighttime respiration using the eddy covariance method, we measured respiration by a foliage and CO₂ efflux from the soil continuosly, and estimated seasonal change of nighttime respiration in a mixed forest of evergreen and deciduous trees. The annual result of nighttime respiration using chamber measurement derived seasonal functions that related to nighted respiration of forest and soil temperature. And the seasonal changes of nighttime respiration of which gap data was filled by the function obtained only by eddy covariance measurement was evaluated by filling gap data using the function which takes account of the results of chamber measurement. The estimated threshold of u* (0.35m s^-1) obtained by chamber measurement showed good agreement with that obtained by biometric measurement (from 0.29 to 0.32 m s^-1).
